At Wembley primary school, music instrument lessons are available to KS2 children for
Guitar, Keyboard and Violin
Learning an instrument has huge benefits for children and can provide great opportunities for them in the future, such as taking part in orchestras and ensembles. It helps train discipline and patience. In addition, it is a wonderful way of making friends and building self-esteem. Children are placed in a group with children who are of a similar level to them, and they are taught by a music teacher from the Brent Music Service. We are very lucky at Wembley Primary School to be working closely with Brent Music Services to provide these instrument lessons.
I want my child to learn to play an instrument. What should I do?
If you would like to place your child on a waiting list for any of these instruments, please see Miss MacGregor in 4P.
How long are instrument lessons for?
Learning an instrument is a skill for life, and it is expected that your child will continue with their instrument throughout their time at school. Children will need to practise their instrument at home to ensure they make good progress. Children who reach grade 1 have the exciting opportunity to join music ensembles within Brent.
When a child signs up for instrument lessons, this commitment is for two terms. This means that if a child signs up for instrument lessons in autumn, they must continue playing the instrument until the end of the spring term. If a child wishes to cancel their lessons, they must come and speak to Miss MacGregor, so she can arrange for another child to take their place.
How much does it cost?
Instrument lessons cost £65 per term, and instruments can be hired from Brent Music Services at a cost of £25 a term. If you want to hire an instrument, please ask the instrument teacher for a form. If your child receives free school meals, the cost of instrument lessons is £11 a term.
What if I want to stop their lessons?
When a child signs up for instrument lessons, this commitment is for two terms. If a child signs up for instrument lessons in autumn, they must continue playing the instrument until the end of the spring term. If a child wishes to cancel their lessons, they must come and speak to Miss MacGregor, so she can arrange for another child to take their place.
Are there any performance opportunities for my child?
It is important for children to practise everyday, so they can progress with their instrument. When children are ready, they are given the opportunity to perform to their year group at the beginning of assemblies.
Is there a school choir?
There is a KS2 choir that is run afterschool on Mondays by Miss MacGregor. If your child would like to join the choir, please speak to Miss MacGregor.
